This is the ancestral bee, our original bee. The one that resisted the two periods of glaciation.
Formerly the dominant species in Europe, over a very large area extending from the Pyrenees mountain range to Poland, it is now threatened.
Today in France, barely 10% of bees are black bees.
In France, more than 30% of bee colonies disappear each year.
As a result of this "massacre", in 10 years, 15,000 beekeepers have ceased their activity.
- There are 20,000 species of bees on the planet.
- In France, there are 2000 different species.
- And nearly 1000 in Europe
- There are barely 10% of black bees left in France
- Apis Mellifera Mellifera has very varied ecotypes depending on the climate and local flora.
- Among these different ecotypes*: Auvergne, Brittany, Cévennes, Champagne, Corsica, Hainaut, Highlands, Ile de France, Landes, Languedoc, Loiret, Normandy, Provence, Savoie.
The disappearance of the bee would have serious consequences both on an environmental and economic level.
It would even be a real catastrophe for nature and human beings.
It is known that 80% of crops depend on the action of pollinating insects.
A widespread weakening of honeybee colonies has been observed in many parts of the world and wild bees are also affected.
At risk: 35% of global food production
Barely 25% of crops do not depend on the action of pollinating insects. Most fruit, vegetable, oil and protein crops, as well as nuts, spices, coffee and cocoa are mainly pollinated by insects.
The global contribution of insect pollination is estimated at 153 billion euros per year.
We are faced with the prospect of a large-scale economic loss, but also of a major ecological loss, since insects do not only play the role of pollen carriers in ecosystems, but are also part of multiple chains of interactions that are useful - if not essential - to the various links involved.
This economic loss would correspond to irreversible damage for the whole of biodiversity: how many species depend, totally or in part, on food coming from plant species which would have difficulty surviving without pollination.
